HOST CITY

Adelaide
As host city for ENVIRO 2012, Adelaide is a picturesque coastal city that's easy to get to, easy to get around, easy on the pocket, and ‘green’.

Adelaide is widely recognised as the 20-minute city. The ease of access and stress free travel is acknowledged by organisers and delegates alike. Where else can you arrive at the international airport, be checked into your hotel within twenty minutes and then walk to the multiple award-winning convention centre adjacent for your conference welcome function?

Innovation and collaboration are the hallmarks of doing business in Adelaide. The economy is strong and the future is bright in terms of resources, defence, medicine, science, technology and more. Adelaide is a welcoming city, and a great place to do business.

The Economist rates Adelaide as the number one business travel destination in Australia and number three in the world. Adelaide is also ranked amongst the top ten most live-able cities in the world, and it’s not hard to see why.

Adelaide is also a ‘green’ conference destination. The city is serviced by electric trams and the world's first solar-powered bus. South Australia is a leader in renewable energy and was the first State in the nation to proclaim climate change laws.

Adelaide’s warm climate is perfect for alfresco dining, either on one of our bustling “eat streets” or soaking up the sun and sights at a beachfront café. Visit Glenelg’s Jetty Road or the “other” Jetty Road at Brighton. Try Henley Square at Henley Beach or Semaphore. There’s much more than just fish and chips here.

City food is concentrated around Gouger Street and Rundle Street. You’ll love the relaxed atmosphere and international menus. In other parts of the city centre, try The Greek on Halifax (street), Goodlife Pizza restaurants on Hutt Street, O’Connell Street and at Glenelg or Cos on Leigh Street.

If you still can’t decide, 5 or 10 minutes in a cab will have you on King William Road at Hyde Park, Unley Road, The Parade at Norwood, Melbourne or O’Connell Streets, both in North Adelaide.

Wherever you go though, there’s a huge choice, with everything from ever popular family owned cafés and restaurants, to well known franchise businesses.

Before or after ENVIRO 2012, delegates can find many of Adelaide's tourist facilities located within walking distance of the CBD and within a few hours, can be anywhere in Australia to enjoy pre- and post-convention holidays.

Getting Around Adelaide
One of the Adelaide’s unique charms is how easy it is to get around. Delegates can hit the streets on foot to explore the historic architecture, elegant arcades and unique shops throughout the City.

Adelaide's tram system, now connecting North and South Terrace is free to ride through the centre of the City. To help you on your way, jump on Tindo (Kaurna for Solar), the World's first solar powered electric bus, which is now part of the FREE Adelaide Connector Bus service. The Connector Bus runs 7 days a week, allowing you the freedom to get on or off at one of the many stops throughout Adelaide and North Adelaide.

Adelaide is one of the easiest cities in Australia to cycle, with loads of tracks and secure bike parking, not to mention Adelaide City Bikes which are free to borrow within the city limits.
